Community Mentoring Program

Mentors bring lived experience, understanding, and encouragement. Mentees bring fresh goals, ideas, and perspectives. Both gain new skills, insights, and meaningful relationships. It’s a two-way street that uplifts everyone involved.

The Community Mentoring Program is about connection, confidence, and community. It brings people together to share experiences, build skills, and support a more inclusive South West.

This community led program is open to people across the South West who want to help create a region where everyone feels welcome and valued. This may include people with disability, family members, support workers, carers, community members, or anyone who believes in the power of inclusion.

At its heart, mentoring is about walking alongside someone. It is not about fixing, directing, or taking over. It is about listening, sharing knowledge, offering encouragement, and learning from each other.

Mentors bring lived experience, community knowledge, understanding, and support. Mentees bring their own goals, ideas, strengths, and perspectives. Together, both people have the chance to grow, build confidence, and create meaningful connections.

For mentors, the program offers a chance to give back, strengthen leadership and communication skills, share lived experience, and be part of positive change in the community.

For mentees, the program can support confidence, social connection, goal setting, self advocacy, and a stronger sense of belonging.

Funded through the NDIS Peer Support Program, Side by Side is helping regional and rural communities across the South West become more inclusive places where people with disability are valued, heard, and connected.

Because communities are stronger when we walk side by side.
